Why Opening a Door in Horror Games Never Feels Normal

There’s something oddly specific about doors in horror games.

In most genres, they’re forgettable. Just part of the environment. You press a button, they open, you move on. No hesitation, no second thought.

But in horror games, doors feel… loaded.

You don’t just open them. You approach them. You pause in front of them. Sometimes you stand there longer than you’d like to admit, doing absolutely nothing—just listening.

Because once that door opens, something changes.
